'Thank You for the Party' 7 inch on WEA Records

Songwriting duo Frank Bugatti and Dominic Musker have been long established in the music industry as writers for a number of successful international acts, and have also released material in their own right since the 1970s, achieving moderate success. One of their best known compositions, Mystery Girl, is a lilting and very soulful ballad which, via a demo, came to the attention of legendary producer Quincy Jones, who wanted to be the first to record the song exclusively with Michael Jackson. Friend and DJ Chris Hill advised them to accept Jones’ offer, but the pair decided to release the record under The Dukes moniker. However a potentially lucrative deal had been blown, as the single only reached the lower regions of the UK national charts. The duo released their set Bugatti & Musker in 1982 on WEA (Warner Electra and Asylum) which was produced in Los Angeles by the late Arif Mardin, with a who's who of session musicians including Paulinho Da Costa, Paul Jackson, Richard Tee, Hamish Stuart, Randy Brecker, Steve Lukather and the late Jeff Porcaro from '70s rock supergroup Toto. It contained the aforementioned single, Thank you for the Party, Love Dance, and Fate a song which also appeared on Chaka Khan’s 1981 album What cha' Gonna Do For Me, which Mardin also produced.
